There are so many books written on the topic of marriage in general, but far too few written about managing In-law relationships. And this is one of the areas where most couples experience some struggle.
So I took a deep dive into “Toxic In laws, loving strategies for protecting your marriage “ by Susan Forward and I learnt so many tips that are useful whether or not your In-laws are toxic.
Here are some things that stood out to me:
1)If you have In-law problems, you have marriage problems.
Do not kid yourself. One way or another, if there is constant, unresolved friction between you and your In-laws, it would eventually rub off on your marriage. To protect your marriage, you need to solve your In-law problems, not shove it under the rug.
2) If you do nothing, nothing will change.
Time will not change your In-law issues. So waiting it out is not a good strategy. If you desire change, you need to make the right decisions and take the necessary steps to secure it. One of those steps will be clicking the link below and listening to the episodes where I share some more details that I learned from the book.
It is mentally and emotionally unhealthy to keep enduring criticisms, negative comments, overbearing/controlling attitudes etc. from your In-laws. You can choose to have an healthy relationship with them, even if it’s a distant one, but you need to know exactly how to go about it. And this book is a perfect guide for that.
I know you’re busy and probably don’t have the time to read another book yet, like I said, I already shared a number of lessons from the book on the Courtship&Marriage podcast. Click below to listen while you’re going about your activities.
As they say, a stitch in time saves nine. Don’t procrastinate. Listen now.
I sincerely wish you the best as you manage your In-Law relationships.
Until next week,😎
With all my love❤️
