Break the Bias!

Tuesday was international women’s day and while people were celebrating the women in their lives, I took time to reflect on the theme for this year’s IWD: Break the bias.

I know that the world as it is, is biased about women, with pay inequalities, job opportunities, job security etc. If we think about all the biases we’ve experienced in our little lives, we’d just be depressed.

Even in marriage, there are so many societal biases based on gender roles and expectations. In-laws typically belittle and disrespect wives more than they ever would husbands. Even women are biased against other women. It’s just everywhere.

While these external biases can be hurtful, the more destructive biases are the self biases.

Self limiting thoughts about what we can aspire to and what we deserve, self doubt about what we are capable of, self sabotage that causes us to belittle our work and focus more on our weakness than our strengths.

A single woman will be scared of acquiring too many degrees or attaining a certain level of wealth because she has been told men will be scared of approaching her.

A married woman will constantly self-martyr, because the world expects her to give it all for her spouse and kids.

Daughters walk around with feelings of inadequacies because their parents won’t stop trying for a boy or expresses such double standards in raising their sons.

Well on this IWD 2022, I am rooting for me and women everywhere!

I am determined to break every bias of self doubt and self sabotage that I’ve seen in myself in the past.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I am accepted in the beloved and the only approval I need is that of my Heavenly Father.

I am worth it. I am enough.

I will no longer stay in the shadows or watch from the sidelines. I will stand on the mountain top and shine my light bright for the whole world.

I will intentionally surround myself with people who believe I can.

I will drown out the noises of those who seek to relegate me.

I can do it. I deserve it. I become it.

All because I am The Father’s Daughter.

“….there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise”.
